How to Find Your Towed Car in Miami-Dade
You walk back to where you parked and the car is gone. Before you assume the worst, check whether it was towed. Here is how to find a towed car in Miami-Dade, step by step.
Short answer: look for tow signs where you parked; private lots must post the towing company’s name and phone number. If you parked on a public street or the police may have ordered the tow, call the non-emergency line of the police agency for that area. If none of that explains it, report the car as possibly stolen.
Step 1: Check the signs where you parked
Private lots in Florida that tow unauthorized vehicles post signs near the entrance. The sign should show the towing company’s name and phone number. Take a photo of it.
Step 2: Call the towing company
Ask whether they have your vehicle, where it is stored, what you need to bring and how you can pay. Have your plate number, make, model and color ready.
Step 3: If it was a street or police tow
Vehicles can also be towed by order of law enforcement, for example after a crash or for a parking violation on a public road. Call the non-emergency number of the police agency that covers that location (city police or the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office) and ask whether a tow was recorded for your plate.
Step 4: What to bring to get the car back
- Government-issued photo ID.
- Proof of ownership, such as the registration or title.
- Proof of insurance, if requested.
- A payment method the storage facility accepts.
Step 5: If you cannot find it
If no towing company or police agency has a record of your vehicle, report it to the police as possibly stolen. The sooner you report it, the better.
Need to move the car after you get it back?
If the vehicle will not start or was damaged, we can tow it from the storage lot to your home or repair shop. That is a separate tow you arrange with us; we are not the company that removes cars from private lots.
